Ready About

Plan for the death like you would for the life.

Embracing the unorthodox - theme of SCAD StartUp 2023, a one-week competition challenging participants to research, design, and pitch a concept to industry leaders from Google, Youtube, Adobe, etc.

Overview - Life is like an adventure. Everyone is a captain sailing the sea of life. However, many of us would be so focused on enjoying the excitement and scenery, but forget to make plans for the eventual end. Thus we created Ready About, an app that helps young people draft their life journey, from the moment they click in, to the moment they call β€œend”.

Death Planning

Problem Statement

Young people tend to avoid or delay planning for their end of life, which can lead to regrets, unease, and stress for both themselves and their families. They would make the most out of their life adventure if they make plans for death like how they do for life.

Research

β€œOnly 7% of the young people have ever taken action in planning for their end of life.”

We interviewed 15 individuals between 25 and 35 years old. They come from a variety of career and educational backgrounds. We wanted to understand the attitude young people have toward death.

Interviewee: 25-35 yo

They are in the life stage of transition.
They start to make money and have some more control over their life decisions. It also is the life stage when they start to face more passing of the previous generations.

Key Insights

β—‡ People don’t want to leave any regrets behind.

β—‡ People want to leave peacefully when their time comes.

β—‡ People wish to lessen the stress and burden of family and friends.

β—‡ People wish to leave behind a positively impactful legacy.

β—‡ People want to live longer.

Ready About

We want everyone to have a place to draft and keep track of their life adventure.

How it works

Ready About treats every user as the captain of their own life adventure.

As users visit different seas of the ocean of life, fulfill wishes, and make life plans, they level up as captains of better and bigger boats.

Why would the boats grow?

Because they have more and more life experience and exciting stories as they sail!

Looking back at their adventure when they gradually reach the end of the adventure, they will find out the biggest treasure they found is their big cruise full of memories.

Scenario - 01

Set short-term and long-term life goals and keep track of progress.

Schedule health checks and nail down medicare arrangements.

Scenario - 02

Learn about and make drafts for all documents involved in end-of-life planning.

Have fun coming up with funky last words posts and funeral ideas. (It’s ok to plan for a playlist πŸ˜‰)

Scenario - 03

Take a moment to appreciate the journey so far.

Feel a sense of accomplishment, and set out for more journey ahead!

What’s special?

β—‡ Drafting and tracking - plan from the start to when the users call β€œendβ€œ

β—‡ All-in-one-shop Convenience - take care of everything one needs regarding death in one place

β—‡ Gamified Experience - level up and find fulfillment in a fun nautical theme

β—‡ Cheerful Approach to a Heavy Topic - embrace an unorthodox attitude toward life and death

The adventure of life is meant to be lived to the fullest with some well-planned stops combined with the beautiful surprises that life has to offer.

β€œI am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.”
